Chip, PIN & Go with CabCard and Central Taxis Shrewsbury

With over 300 vehicles and more than 40,000 bookings a week – in the Telford, Shrewsbury and surrounding areas – Central Taxis are the largest private hire company in Shropshire. Starting with just a few cars and an ambition, Central Taxis has become the leading taxi service.

Central taxis are recognised for providing a quality service:
“we are driven to ensure that any passenger would get a service second to none in any one of our vehicles, so we decided to look into the advantages of taking card payments via Chip & PIN in our vehicles, to uphold a service with a ‘special touch’ for our passengers.”
Card payments have improved passenger convenience and CabCard have removed the entire card administration process and associated costs from Central Taxis. Drivers can save time by eliminating detours to cash machines and also avoid having large amounts of cash on them. Several of the drivers at Central Taxis commented:
“it was a brilliant surprise how fast, efficient and reliable the card transaction process is with the CabCard terminal.”
Additionally, a new recurring revenue stream is provided to fleet owners by CabCard from every card transaction. It means for the likes of Central, fleets can actively share revenues earned from the increase of card paid fares. The director of Central Taxis speaks positively of his experience with CabCard:
"I have had no complaints working with CabCard and have been happy with their pro-active approach, initiatives and support. Even after the first few transactions, I was confident that the Chip & PIN terminals were going to be a success; it’s a brilliant concept that has been greatly received by the drivers and passengers. I look forward to expanding with CabCard and equipping many more of my drivers to offer this excellent card payment processing."

Daily Payments Now Available with CabCash

CabCard Services are proud to announce the launch of their unique new service, CabCash. Now you can be paid, every day, for your credit and debit card fares.

Here’s how it works:
  1. Your passenger pays their fare using their credit or debit card. You take the payment in the normal way using your Chip & PIN terminal.
  2. Your money is paid onto your Visa CabCash card. Once you have applied for and received your CabCash card your fares and tips will be paid on to the card. This way your money isn’t paid into your bank account at all, but paid each weekday onto your Visa CabCash card.
  3. Use your Visa CabCash card to spend however you want. Your CabCash card is issued in your name, together with a PIN number, and works just like any other debit card. Use the card to pay for whatever you like, in shops, over the phone or online. You can also use it to withdraw cash from ATMs worldwide that carry the Visa logo (just a 75p fee per cash withdrawal).
  4. Keep track of your spending and payments received by logging on to the CabCash website, you’ll have 24/7 access to all the card transactions made to and from your CabCash card, online or via your smart phone when you are on the move. So you’ll always know exactly what money has been paid onto your card and what you have spent.
Special introductory offer
For a limited period we are offering a special introductory rate of only £10 to set up your CabCash account. Then when your card is live there’s a charge of just £1.25 a week administration fee.

New appointment at CabCard keen to raise importance of being PCI compliant

James Deville has been named UK Business Development Manager at CabCard Services. CabCard provide a complete Chip & PIN card payment solutions to the taxi trade, equipping drivers with an in-taxi terminal to accept debit and credit card fares.

James brings a decade of private hire industry experience. He commented:

"I am delighted to offer this fully payment card industry compliant product, into a market where passenger demand for paying taxi fares by card is increasing every day - ‘Chip & PIN’ payments are needed for PCI compliance, this is the way today’s taxi industry needs to go."

Whilst the taxi trade may have initially addressed the shift from cash to plastic by taking card payments over the radio or via mobile phone, operations offering such non-compliant card payment methods are falling prey to the increasingly expensive and destructive consequences of not being PCI compliant, including chargeback problems and exposure to the increasing level of fraud in the card market.

Compliance violations with PCI standards are resulting in severe penalties, including substantial fines, higher processing costs for accepting cards, monthly non-compliance fees or termination of card processing facilities all together.

CabCard supports fleets with the very latest payment and monitoring technology – equipping drivers with a secure Chip & PIN mobile card payment terminal that offers an attractive and safe proposition to passengers. CabCard also eliminate the need for fleet operators to have bank-approved merchant status, with its complex application processes and high implementation costs. With CabCard, fleet controllers can rest assured that they are offering passengers a PCI-compliant payment solution without the fear of receiving penalties associated with non-compliance.

Call CabCard today on 0845 491 8410 to make your fleet PCI compliant, or for more information visit our website: paycabs.com

Chip, PIN & Go with CabCard when riding with A2B Radio Cars

With over 400 private hire vehicles - including cars and mini buses - operating around Birmingham International Airport, Birmingham city centre and Solihull, A2B is one of the largest Private Hire Vehicle companies in the Midlands. The company has been operating since 1991 and six months ago Director Mark Skermer decided to look into the advantages of taking card payments via Chip and PIN in each of his vehicles, “We were taking card payments over the phone but this was creating chargeback issues, with Chip and PIN there are no chargebacks. CabCard’s payment service has not only ensured guaranteed payments, it also enhances our professional image and saves time – benefiting both drivers and passengers.”

The taxi trade has traditionally been run on cash, but with today’s traveller it is no longer certain that passengers have cash in their pockets; the UK Cards Association says that 94% of the adult population now holds a debit or credit card. Plastic is becoming as ubiquitous as cash, with an increasing demand particularly from business travellers preferring to use their corporate cards over cash, and therefore avoiding the hassle of claiming back money on
expenses. Mark is of the same opinion, “Having the card terminals in the taxi has increased our flexibility and given us a competitive edge, proven by increased business, taking on two new business accounts just three months into starting with CabCard.”

Card payments have improved passenger convenience and CabCard have removed the entire card administration process and associated costs from A2B. Drivers can save time by eliminating detours to cash machines and also avoid having large amounts of cash on them.

Additionally, a new recurring revenue stream is provided to fleet owners by CabCard from every card transaction. It means that the likes of A2B, fleets can actively share revenues earned from the increase of card-paid fares. The directors of A2B speak positively of their experience with CabCard, “Setting up with CabCard was a professional and simple process. The CabCard team has been excellent, from introduction to driver training and the ongoing efficient customer support. We are looking forward to the new and exciting ongoing schemes and initiatives CabCard have to offer and we are keen to put these into operation.”

Whether your firm is a large or small fleet operator call CabCard on 0845 491 8410, go to paycabs.com to find out more about the unique, fast and affordable ‘Chip, Pin & Go’ service your business and customers deserve.

All Smiles On The Rank at Birmingham Airport

So far 2010 has got off to a slow start for the travelling public. The icy weather and messages of "…don’t travel unless you have to" hasn’t helped the Taxi Trade and similar to many areas around the country the Midlands has been badly hit.
At Birmingham International Airport every black cab on the rank is able to accept credit and debit cards and is equipped with a CabCard mobile terminal to take Chip & PIN card payments, but with the bad weather chins were down and good fares hard to pick up.

When CabCard Services management team came to hear of this they quickly swung into action with a plan to lift the spirits of the down at heart drivers. John Trippaldella, CabCard’s taxi co-ordinator explained:

"99% of all drivers at the airport use our system, so we organised a simple 2 day scheme to encourage them to take a few additional payments by card. By meeting certain criteria they could earn themselves a free Barrier ticket. In addition any driver who simply took a card payment on either of the days was entered into a draw and we had a further five barrier tickets as prizes.

The lads really entered into the spirit of the promotion. It perked them up and we generated more card business. It really took some of the chill out of the 2 days we operated the scheme and essentially we also had a bit of fun."

CabCard Services is keen that all taxi drivers should be able to benefit from being able to take payment by card. Malcolm Jamieson at CabCard says:

"The travelling public and especially those on business like and expect the convenience of using their cards to pay for their taxi journeys. Taxi drivers who use CabCard’s secure way of providing this facility can ensure they don’t miss out on some very lucrative fares.

Full fares and tips are paid each week directly to an individual drivers own Bank account. We manage everything right down to the supply of our approved ‘Chip, PIN & Go’ signage and it is this sort of thing that sets our drivers apart from the others who don’t offer card convenience for their passengers.

We would like to thank the drivers at Birmingham Airport who continually prove the point that taking payment by card is here to stay."

Birmingham airport driver Paul summed up saying:

"It pays off, sometimes you think you would prefer the cash but I have found I can get longer journeys and better tips from passengers if they can pay by card. l think it is always worth asking them if they would you like to pay by card at the beginning of the trip, that way they are not worrying about how much the fare will be and whether they will have enough cash."
